The Brandy Crusta is an important 19th-century cocktail created in New Orleans by bartender Joseph Santini. It is often viewed as a forerunner of the Sidecar and other citrus brandy cocktails. The name refers to the distinctive sugar “crust” on the rim of the glass. In cocktail history, the Brandy Crusta matters not only for flavor but also for presentation: the long lemon peel and decorated glass made it an early example of elaborate service.
